Code of Conduct

Code of Conduct

General

Playing on Har-Tru courts is an enjoyable and worthy experience but the cost to maintain them is high. Everyone must work together to preserve our courts. Please observe the following:

  • Proper shoes, such as shoes with a full herringbone sole pattern, must be worn. The sole design must be such that no digs, ridges, or gouges are left on the court as one plays.
  • The courts are maintained (dragged, watered and lined) twice daily- early in the morning and mid-afternoon. Please be patient as time is needed to maintain the quality of the courts.
  • Members are welcome to drag and line the courts if they wish when the courts are dry. However, please do not attempt to do any maintenance when the courts are wet, as dragging over wet puddles too early results in a costly loss of Har-Tru.
  • Remove all litter from the courts after play.
  • Place large branches and debris found on the court outside of the fenced court area.

Sportsmanship

  • Always play fairly and respect other players.
  • Introduce yourself to new members and opponents.
  • Be a positive example. Children and beginners are looking to you for appropriate behaviour.
  • Please refrain from using profanity. Yelling, swearing and abuse of equipment is not acceptable.

Use of Courts

The use of CTC courts is for members only.

  • The courts are only for playing tennis. Other activities are not permitted.
  • The allotted court time is in one-hour time slots. Please be aware when other members have arrived for play and vacate the court in a timely and polite manner.
  • The gate code is given to members annually upon payment of their membership. Please do not share the code with non-members.
  • If you wish to bring a non-member as a guest, you can bring that person a maximum of 4 times per year. You can still bring other guests. A guest fee of $5.00 per guest per session applies. Please place the money into the mail slot/lockbox to the left of the clubhouse door or E-transfer the funds to finance@cambridgetennisclub.ca
  • All personal items not being used while playing, i.e. water bottles, bags, etc., should be placed safely out of the way in an area that will not present a hazard to other players.

Your support for the CTC and the use of its courts is greatly appreciated.

TENNIS ETIQUETTE

  • Please be patient and courteous to other members.
  • With our increasing membership, there are times when all the courts are busy. Please do not cross behind a court while a point is underway.

Entering/Exiting

  • Please wait until play has ceased, then enter the front gate and quickly proceed to your court without walking on the other courts.
  • When leaving the courts, please wait until players have stopped play before crossing the courts and then promptly make your way to exit.

Gates

The court gates must be closed while tennis is in progress to avoid injuries to the players. Please ensure that the court gates are closed after you enter and when you leave.

Ball Interference

  • If a ball comes onto your court from another court, it is advisable to call it a “let.” Calling a “let” stops play and allows a replay of the point while avoiding possible injury to players and making it possible to return the ball to the other court.
  • Please return balls to other courts only when they are prepared to receive them, usually when the other court has stopped play.
  • If a ball from your court rolls onto another court, please wait until play has stopped on that court before politely asking for your ball to be returned. If a ball presents a danger to a player, please alert them immediately.

Dress Code

  • Proper tennis attire is required.
  • Shoes must have flat, even soles that do not catch on tapes or cut up the har tru court surfaces (i.e. no cleats).
  • Players must wear proper athletic clothes.
  • Shirts are mandatory.
